William Henry Downes - Information
William was working as a dairy farmer in Camden when he enlisted. He was born in Thirlmere, and grew up in the area serving in the Commonwealth Cadets. He was just 20, when he filled in an application for military service. He then travelled into Sydney, signing up on the 24th of February 1916. He commenced his training, however, was discharged on the 21st of March due to a doctor’s recommendation.
