William Albert Whitely - Information

William Albert Whitely was born on the 15th of May 1898 in Albury. He was the son of Campbelltown born William Albert John and Mary Elizabeth Whitely. As the war ragged on, William Jr. was still living in Albury with his family and working as a clerk. In February 1917, his father enlisted in the AIF, however, was quickly discharged with chronic rheumatism. On the 16th of October 1918, William followed in his father’s footsteps, signing up in Albury, at the age of 20. He then commenced his training as a Private in Liverpool. However, while he was preparing to go overseas, the war ended on the 11th of November. On the 31st of December 1918, William was discharged due to the expiration of his period of enlistment.
