Vincent Anthony Byrne - Information
Vincent Anthony Byrne was born on the 12th of October 1899 in Appin. During the war years, Vincent was living in Alstonville with his mother Agnes Byrne and was working as a farmer. Just a few days after his 18th birthday, he enlisted on the 20th of October 1917 in Lismore.
At first, Vincent was placed in a reserve unit, before being transferred to the 15th Reinforcements, 31st Battalion. He then set forth from Sydney on March 2nd 1918 aboard the SS Ormonde for war service. Vincentâs unit landed in Southampton in May, and after training left for France in September. Lucky for Vincent, the war soon ended in mid November. He was then posted to the Australian RE Workshops in April 1919 and returned home in July.
