Ross Robert William Fowler - Information
Ross Robert William was born in Campbelltown to George Robert and Margaret Fowler. When war broke out in Europe, Ross was living in Haberfield, Sydney with his wife Margaret Theresa. Ross supported his family working as a driver. He was in his forties when he decided to enlist in the AIF. He joined up at Holsworthy on the 29th of September 1915. He became a Trooper with the 5th Squad, 2nd Australian Remount Unit. Ross departed Sydney aboard the HMAT Orsova on November 10th 1915. Ross landed in Egypt at the tail end of the Gallipoli Campaign. He worked with the horses, preparing and training them for patrols, charges and other duties before his unit was disbanded. Ross was therefore sent home on the HT Seeang Bee on the 29th of April 1916, for his discharge.
