Robert Rush - Information
During the war, Robert was living on Sydney Rd in Campbelltown with his parents. He was born in Newtown on the 2nd of January 1900. When he was older, he acquired a letterpress machinist apprenticeship with the Lever Bros. Ltd Company in Sydney. He had been working for them for 5 years, when he enlisted in the AIF, shortly after he turned 18. His company and his parents had given him permission to join up, and he hastily filled in the forms in Sydney on the 18th of April 1918. Robert trained at the M & D Depot in Liverpool, and was then made a Private with the 22nd General Service Reinforcements. After training, he departed Sydney onboard the SS Wyreena on the 14th of October 1918. While at sea, the war ended and his troopship was consequently recalled on the 21st of December. He was then discharged from military service in early January 1919, and returned home to Campbelltown.
