James Graham Doran - Information
The Doran family lived in Campbelltown in the late 1850s and 1860s. Here, James Graham was born on the 21st of November 1864 to parents Charles Henry and Emma. He eventually moved to Portland, where he found work as a labourer. When he was 45 years old, he enlisted in Casula on the 27th of November 1915.
James was posted as a Private to the 3rd Reinforcements, 31st Battalion in January 1916. On the 18th of February, he left Melbourne on the HMAT Ballarat for war service. His unit landed in Suez, Egypt where he was taken on strength to the 47th Battalion at Zeitoun in April 1916. He was then marched into Serapeum in July, and later admitted to the 1st Auxiliary Hospital at Heliopolis for an old leg injury. After being hospitalised, he was sent home and discharged for his old injury and defective vision.
