Herbert Washington Webb - Information
Herbert Washington Webb was part of a large family from Ingleburn. Herbert was born in Ingleburn on the 13th of November 1891, and grew up in the Campbelltown area with his siblings. This included his younger brother, William Reginald. When Herbert was older, he moved to the city, finding employment as a bank accountant with the HBC Bank. Herbert watched the war grip the country, as many of his colleagues, friends and family left for war. In 1915, his brother, William, enlisted in the AIF and was shipped overseas. In early 1918, Herbert married his sweetheart Annie Theresa Jenkin in Marrickville. However, he then decided to join the colours, signing up on the 8th of October 1918 in Sydney, aged 26. He commenced his training with the Light Horse at Liverpool Depot. While he was gone, his wife relocated to Allen St in Varroville. However, while he was training, the war ended in November and his unit was subsequently demobilised.
