Harold William Bowles - Information

Harold William was born in Menangle c1884 to Joseph and Elizabeth Bowles. Harold’s family eventually moved to Chiltern in Victoria, where he gained employment as a blacksmith. He was 31 years old when he enlisted in the AIF in Longreach, Queensland on the 18th of August 1915. Harold began his training with the 13th Reinforcements, 9th Battalion. He was then granted home leave to say goodbye to his family. However, at this time he was not well, suffering with an acute bronchitis infection. Sadly, while he was on home leave he died on the 5th of November 1915. He passed away from the measles, following an acute bronchial infection. His family buried him at Chiltern Cemetery in Victoria.
