Harold Frederick Edwards - Information

When the war began, Harold was living in Ingleburn. Born in Kurragong, Harold left his family, moving to the area finding work as a plumber. At the age of 21, he joined up on the 30th of June 1915 in Liverpool. He was assigned to the 12th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion as a Private. He was then shipped out from Sydney on the 30th of December 1915 upon the HMAT Medic.

The vessel made port in Fremantle, Western Australia. However in January 1916, Harold failed to re-embark. In fact, he had been charged by Civil Authorities for breaking and entering and theft. He was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment to Fremantle Gaol. As a result, he was discharged from service on the 18th of January. On the 2nd of June 1918, Harold was released from prison. Remarkably, he returned on the 26th of July, sentenced to a further 26 months for stealing.
