Harold Bellingham - Information

Harold was born in Camden on the 16th of January 1898, the first son of George and Jane Bellingham.22 The Bellinghams left the area for Bowral, where Harold completed a five year carpenter apprenticeship with T. J. Pathur. As the war was raging, Harold was working as a carpenter in Mulgoa. He decided to join the war effort, enlisting on the 5th of June 1918 in Sydney. During training, Harold was made a Private with the Dental Corps in the Army Medical Corps, attached to the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force. He was then shipped out from Sydney onboard the SS Melusia on the 15th of July 1918.

Harold arrived at Rabaul in New Guinea on the 25th of July. Five days later, he was seconded for duty with the Dental Department in Rabaul and later in Kokopo. Requesting a discharge, he left Rabaul for Australia on the 17th of April 1919.
