George Bailey - Information

George Bailey was born and raised in Picton. He remained in the area for sometime, serving with the Mounted Rifles for three years, and completing a 5 year apprenticeship with Mr A. Doust. He then relocated to Newcastle, and found work as a labourer. When he was 39, he enlisted in the AIF on the 17th of April 1916. By June, he was stationed to the Reserve Company at the 34th Training Battalion in Rutherford Camp. He then broke camp and went absent without leave. A Board of Inquiry was conducted, and George was listed as having deserted on the 15th of June. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
